Tips & Ideas ~ "I decorate the mirrors in our house with the canned snow. It comes off with windex when the holidays are over. You can use stencils with the snow and the mirrors come out real cute." Kelly T. of MO "If you have sleds around the house you can use these to decorate for the holidays. We put Christmas stuffed animals on two or three sleds and set them in our entryway. They are cute and welcoming and it seems the animals on the sleds are having a race. Wagons can work too if you don't have sleds." Kelly T. of MO "A special table cloth can be made with just a plain cloth. Have everyone who comes to your house for the holidays sign it. After the holidays are over, go over each signiture with embroidery thread. Its fun to look back over the years and see who was at the celebrations. These become wonderful family momentos." Kelly T. of MO "To make your own luminaries; use paper bags and have the kids cut holes in them shaped like snowflakes. Add sand and candles. You can use battery operated candles if you are worried about fires." Deanna C. of MO "My young daughter gave me this idea when she was 6. I was telling her what Christmas was really about; Jesus' Birthday, and she said, well when are we going to have the birthday party. So every year after we have invited friends and family and had cake with ice cream and yes of course we sing Happy Birthday! Sometimes we put on plays about helping others and then we go donate toys or take turns reading the story of Christmas. Even though they are older, we still have our Christmas birthday party." Kathy V. of UT "Give artificial trees a fresh tree scent. Get some pine cones at a craft store or gather outside, dab some pine oil on the sections and place in a basket." Sheree N. of PA "It is fun to make Christmas necklaces or bracelets, using a simple crochet chain stitch of gold or silver crochet thread and tiny ornaments. Make about six chain stitches between the ornaments and then make a closure by adding a suitably colored button on one end of the necklace or bracelet and a loop of the thread on the other end." Gladys P. of TX "A great game we play with the kids is to hide candy canes. There are prizes for different canes. We buy a few that are different colors and these correspond with the gifts wrapped in the same colored paper. If you find a special cane then you win a special prize." Deanna C. of MO "In January I list all the people I need to buy Christmas presents for on the back of my calendar. Then, throughout the year when that person mentions something they want I put the ideas next to their name. When December comes I have a list for everyone and Christmas shopping is a breeze."
