Follow the picture instructions to learn how to crochet this beginner level scarf. (NOTE* This project only requires that you learn the chain and the double crochet stitch and is ideal for those that wish to begin to learn how to crochet.)

Instructions for crocheting your scarf:
Gauge is allowed to vary for this project so no testing is required.
(Gauge: A measurement that describes the resulting size of a piece of your work in length and height. The gauge you get can vary depending on the yarn used, the tool size used and the tension (tightness/loosness) of your stitches. Most yarns and patterns have information on the "gauge" that should result for the correct finished size of your project.)
Abbreviations to know:
ch = chain
dc = double crochet

Scarf in thick yarns (as shown):

  • Using No. 6.0mm crochet hook, chain 18.
  • Row 1. Dc into the 4th chain from the hook (3 skipped chains count as first dc stitch) and in each chain across.
  • Row 2. Ch 3, turn, dc into the second dc and in every dc stitch from the previous row all the way across.
  • Repeat Row 2 until the scarf measures your desired length.
  • To finish, cut the yarn about 2 inches from your work and thread it through the final loop. Pull tight. Use your crochet hook to weave the yarn end into your scarf to hide it.
Scarf in medium yarns:
  • Using No. 5.5mm crochet hook, chain 22.
